Carlos Mencía His Story and Best Priced Tickets

Name: Ned Arnel Mencia.
Birth date: October 22, 1967.
Birthplace: San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Breakthrough: Became the International Comedy Grand Champion of “Buscando Estrellas”, the Latino version of Star Search.

I particularly love the comedy of Carlos Mencía because it is brutally honest and he is unafraid to offend. He is a comedian who touches on political issues that involve social class, culture and race. If you are easily offended I recommend you NOT to watch his comedy.

He is haunted occasionally with accusations that his jokes were not original, he nevertheless gained respect from friends and foes for his lightning-fast wit and fearless rendering of intelligent comments.

Born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Carlos was the 17th among the 18 children of Roberto Holness and Magdalena Mencía. His uncle Pablo Mencía and aunt Consuelo, raised him while having no children of their own living in the Maravilla Projects of East Los Angeles where Carlos grew up.

He was an exceptionally intelligent student and was given the chance to accelerate to 10th grade after finishing his 6th grade classes. But because of the thug war and gang culture in East L.A. during that period, he was sent back to Seiko, Honduras when he was 12 years old.

According to Carlos, he was a fairly good kid and gave credit to his foster parents for their guidance that kept him away from serious troubles.

He came back in L.A. when he was 15 years old and finished high school; then entered California State University where he took up electrical engineering. After he made a hilarious performance at “The Laugh Factory” in one of its open mic nights, he decided to leave college and pursue a career in comedy.

The famous Hispanic comedian became a regular sight in some of the hottest venues in the stand-up comedy circuit like “The L.A. Cabaret” and “The Comedy Store.”

In 1998, Mencía hosted “Funny is Funny!” on Galavision and made a huge hit comedy album titled “Take a Joke, America” released by Warner Brothers in 2000. His strings of achievements were followed with a successful stand-up comedy tour with Pablo Francisco and Freddy Soto in 2001 known as “The Three Amigos.”

His career had a big boost when he became the grand champion of the Latino version of Star Search “Buscando Estrellas.” This led to his appearances in “The Arsenio Hall”, “Living Color” and became the host of a HBO series titled “Loco Slam” in 1994.

His biggest break came in March 2005 after Comedy Central signed him for a half hour comedy show titled “Mind of Mencía”. The show was a mixture of sketch comedy and Mencía’s own stand-up comedy style. It premiered on July 6, 2005 and lasted for four seasons which became the 9th highest rated program of Comedy Central.

Carlos now lives in Los Angeles with his wife Amy and their only child Lucas Pablo Mencia who was born on December 14, 2006.

His unique brand of Carlos Mencía comedy has gained good number of television followers but also elicited sharp criticisms along the way especially from other comedians. On a recent Maxim magazine issue, Carlos Mencía was named as the 12th all-time worst comedian but on the other hand, television viewers voted him as the 2nd best stand-up comedian in the 2006 “Stand up Showdown” of Comedy Central.

Carlos now lives in Los Angeles with his wife Amy and their only child Lucas Pablo Mencía who was born on December 14, 2006.

Carlos Mencía Tour & Carlos Mencía DVD

Carlos Mencía DVD, the first season of “Mind of Mencía” was released on March 21st 2006 to coincide with the start of the second season of the show. The second season achieved Comedy Central’s ninth highest rated program.

Mencía’s DVDs continue to hit the market in April 3, 2007 including 14 episodes, October 23, 2007 including 14 episodes, and November 11, 2008 including 10 episodes.

Below are the best priced tickets to see this famous Hispanic comedian in action. Beware, he is hilarious! Get ready to enjoy Hispanic comedy to the max, and yes like we say in Latin America “El no tiene pelos en la lengua”, which means he says it like it is…Not for the easily offended person.

Aventura Music and Biography

How Bachata Changed Forever

Name: Anthony Romeo Santos, Lenny Santos, Max Santos and Henry Santos.
Birth date: 21st of July, 1981. October 24, 1979. January 30, 1982. December 15, 1979.
Birthplace: Bronx, NY. Bronx, NY. Bronx, NY and Moca, Dominican Republic.
Breakthrough: Producing the album “We Broke the Rules” specially the famous “Obsession” song.

The origins of Grupo Aventura’s music is simple, it is the dream born from four young men of Hispanic background where three of them were born in the Bronx, NY.

Aventura was founded in New York. Romeo, Lenny, Max and Henry started making beautiful music that had a different character from regular bachata music, where the subjects are mostly about bitterness and spite.

The Aventura music is filled with lyrics that transcend the normal characters that suffer through infidelity and are forsaken. Along elements of Hispanic culture, they’ve managed to incorporate the North American influence into their style as well.

Anthony Romeo is the lead singer and the song writer of the Aventura grupo. He was born on the 21st of July, 1981 in the Bronx.

His father is from the Dominican Republic and his mother is of Puerto Rican descent. With his singing skills, Romeo started singing in the church choir at age 12.

Lenny on the other hand is the lead guitarist. He also works as the musical producer of the group. He was born on October 24, 1979 and got the music vibe in him when he was 15 years old. Starting from hip hop music, he grew and helped develop Grupo Aventura’s bachata and hip hop style.

Max, who is also called Mikey, takes the role of the group’s bass player. He was born in the South Bronx January 30, 1982.

At the same time Romeo was in the church choir, Max was already adept at playing bass. Mikey didn’t have his own bass guitar but learned to play it at school.

The fourth member of the group is Henry who is also a singer and the composer for the group. Born on December 15, 1979, he was the only one in the group who wasn’t born in the Bronx. His birthplace is Moca, Dominican Republic but he and his family moved to New York when he was 14.

With various music productions as accomplishments under their belt like Generation Next, Love and Hate and God’s Project, they’ve provided the world with more than 30 music compositions.

The Beginnings of the Aventura Music

Like many musical groups Aventura struggled at the beginning. According to “Despierta America,” Elvin Polanco -an artist promoter, discovered the group while being in charge of arranging the music talent at a Latin Festival in NY.

It all happened when Anthony Romeo and Lenny approached the promoter asking him to give the group the opportunity to play at the festival. At the time they hadn’t recorded any music, however Elvin gave Aventura the chance and supported them until they recorded their first CD.

“Los Tinellers de La Bachata” were ready to sign their first contract within a year but being minors meant they had to involve their parents before Elvin invested any money in the group.

A health problem affected Elvin and a person who worked with him took the boys to another promoter, Julio César García, who changed the name of the group and used the same songs they had created with Polanco to create “Trampa de Amor.” The new group was born and its name was “Aventura.”

The good nature of the group is evident when they called Polanco 10 years after their first record, not forgetting about who had given them the first helping hand. They reunited and compensated him for his first efforts.

The Rebirth of Bachata the New Aventura Music

For Grupo Aventura music is a successful mix of Hispanic cultural roots with bachata melodies and their favorite musical styles. Their fan base is growing by the minute in part because of their contributions to the music scene.

The Last Back Cover

What makes this group so different is the mix of musical styles like hip hop, pop, R&B, and some rock amongst other styles with bachata.

These mixes make the new bachata fresh and fun, away from the classic bachata style. Also, the group started using different topics for their songs and moved away from those of the typical bachata like bitterness and broken hearts.

For Grupo Aventura music has to go with lyrics that address love, seduction, and hope of new flourishing relationships with more happy endings that identified totally with younger generations.

Some of the best Aventura albums are the 2000 release “We Broke the Rules” famous for its “Obsession” song, and “The Last” released in 2009 from which they spawned 4 hit singles and won several awards including the 2010 “Premio Lo Nuestro.”

In 2010 the group had a release for 18 months from the contract they have with Premium Latin Music to work in separate projects. The idea was to work together starting in 2012 to release a new project in 2013.

Romeo was the first one to test the waters as a soloist with the release of “Formula” which mixes rhythms like R&B, bachata, ballads and fusion, according to his biography in Amazon.

Grupo Aventura’s music continues to be one of the most legendary because of its contributions and changes to bachata. Innovation and creativity mix seamlessly with beautiful lyrics to form a sauce that has taken these young artists to stardom.

Andy García Biography

Photos and Memorabilia

Name: Andres Arturo García Menéndez.
Birth date: April 12, 1956.
Birthplace: Havana, Cuba.
Breakthrough: Awards nomination for best supporting actor in the movie Godfather III.

Among the stars along the aisles of Hollywood walk of fame, the one for Andy García seemed to shine more splendidly. It is shimmering from his unique career through staying true to his own thoughts and ideals about acting.

While some would have taken advantage of their fame to get rich with lightweight projects, Andy never wavered and stayed with films and stories with exceptional qualities. This attribute was already evident early on his career when he once walked out from an audition that asked him to do a nude scene.

From the Andy García biography at celebritywonder.com I learned that he was born with a conjoined twin of a small size “no larger than a tennis ball.” Through surgery, doctors removed his twin and only a scar remained on his shoulder.

His father Rene is a lawyer and his mother Amelie is an English teacher. When Andy was just 5 years old, his family left Cuba after the Communist government led by Fidel Castro took over their lands.

Arriving in Miami-Florida with nothing, the Garcia’s found out that living in a foreign land was tough. But with patience and hard work, the Garcia family went on to build a million-dollar fragrance company literally from scratch.

Andy’s family easily adapted to Miami’s way of life. Andy went on to one of Florida’s local high school and became a popular baseball player. But after being struck with severe illnesses on his senior year, he channeled his attention to acting.

He then took up acting classes at the Florida International University where he graduated with a major in theater. He was starting his career by making frequent performances in the regional theater networks.

Armed with excellent training and passion for acting, he moved to Hollywood in 1978 and worked as a waiter to make ends meet while auditioning for parts. He was blessed with good looks and talent which helped along the way. His first break came playing a gang member role on the first episode of a hit TV series – “Hill Street Blues.”

Andy García Movies

In 1983, his film acting career took off playing a part in “Blue Skies Again,” but it was his role as a drug dealer starring Jeff Bridges in the 1986 film “8 Million Ways to Die” that caught the attention of critics.

His major break came after playing opposite Kevin Costner in the 1987 Brian de Palma’s blockbuster movie “The Untouchables.” But what brought this famous Hispanic actor into international stardom was his role as Sonny Corleone’s illegitimate child in “Godfather” Part III — earning him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor in this 1990 classic trilogy.

In the 1990’s, Andy’s big screen career soared higher, bagging lead roles and being paired with some of the big names in Hollywood. He worked with Uma Thurman in “Jennifer Eight” in 1992, with Ellen Burstyn and Meg Ryan in “When a Man Love a Woman” in 1994, and alongside Michael Keaton in “Desperate Measures” in 1998.

In the following years, he worked in the “Ocean’s 11” sequel, “Confidence” in 2003, The Lost City in 2005 (also as director, executive producer and composer) and “Smokin’ Aces” in 2006. He always dreamed of going back to his native land and he is proud of his Cuban heritage. This is apparent on his pet projects like the documentary “Cachao — Como Su Ritmo No Hay Dos” which he directed in 1993.

One of the best Andy Garcia movies was based in the life of Arturo Sandoval a renowned Cuban trumpet player in the Emmy nominated “For Love or country, The Arturo Sandoval Story.” In this movie he produces and plays the role.

Though he has become one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, Andy Garcia has remained an extremely private person. A devoted family man, he is known to be extremely protective of the privacy of his wife Maria Victoria whom he married in 1982 and their 4 children. For him, they are the jewels of his life.

Andy García Photos and Memorabilia

Some of the best Andy Garcia photos are from the movie “The Godfather” where he played Sonny Corleone’s son. The power exhuded from the role has been captured in some of the autographed photographs below. Besides his movie roles, he is a handsome actor that has been on the cover of major magazines like GQ. Here I have some select Andy García autographed pictures that come with their certificate of authenticity.
